I'm dedicated to building stronger, more inclusive communities through leadership, advocacy, and collaboration. Over the past two decades, I’ve worked to promote educational excellence, equity, and civic engagement in Grand Haven and throughout Ottawa County.

Current Volunteer Leadership

Ottawa Area ISD Board of Education (2025–Present) — Secretary

Responsible for maintaining accurate records of board meetings, agendas, and official correspondence, ensuring transparency and accountability. Facilitate the flow of information among board members, district administration, and the community to support clear decision-making.

Actively contribute to strategic planning initiatives and policy discussions that enhance educational outcomes for all students across Ottawa County. Mentor new board members to help them understand governance procedures and district priorities.

City of Grand Haven Human Relations Commission (2025–Present) — Commissioner

Serve as a bridge between residents, city officials, and local organizations to promote equity, diversity, and inclusion. Lead public forums and educational programs on cultural competency and community relations.

Collaborate with city leadership to provide recommendations for policies and programs that address systemic inequities, support fair treatment, and foster a welcoming community for all.

Grand Haven Pride Board of Directors (2025–Present) — Director

Guide the vision and execution of the Grand Haven Pride Festival and related events, ensuring they are inclusive, safe, and celebratory. Coordinate volunteer teams, sponsorships, and community partnerships to maximize festival impact.

Work year-round to create programming that raises awareness, fosters acceptance, and strengthens connections within the LGBTQ+ community and allies.

Past Volunteer Leadership

Grand Haven Area Public Schools Board of Education (1999–2021) — President, Vice-President, Treasurer

Led governance of the school district for over 22 years, overseeing strategic planning, fiscal management, and policy development. Collaborated closely with administrators, teachers, and community stakeholders to ensure quality educational experiences for students.

Implemented initiatives to enhance curriculum, improve accountability, and promote equity and student achievement. Served as a mentor to board members and facilitated strong community engagement in district decisions.

Ottawa Area ISD Board of Education (2017–2023) — Vice-President, Secretary

Supported collaboration across 11 public school districts, ensuring policies and programs effectively addressed the diverse needs of students. Oversaw operational procedures, program evaluation, and compliance initiatives.

Worked on enhancing career and technical education programs, special education support, and inter-district communication. Provided guidance on governance best practices and regional educational priorities.

Michigan Association of School Boards (2017–2023) — Director

Represented Region 3 districts statewide, contributing to policy development and advocacy for Michigan public schools. Facilitated professional development for school board members and promoted collaboration among district leaders.

Assisted in shaping initiatives to improve student success, governance practices, and educational equity at the state level.

Grand Haven Schools Foundation (1999–2012) — Director

Supported early childhood education and enrichment programs through strategic planning, fundraising, and community outreach. Partnered with schools and local organizations to maximize program impact and sustainability.

Developed scholarships, led fundraising campaigns, and implemented initiatives to ensure students had access to the resources and support they needed to thrive academically and personally.
